Red Boat / Green Water acrylic on canvas
Sidney and Gertrude Zack Gallery, Vancouver B.C.
February 10 – March 6, 2011
My work deals with the reconciliation of disparate elements. There is no hierarchy in the selection of the objects I choose to paint about. Their personal imbued meaning is more important that their status. For instance, the bridge in my work, act as a metaphor bringing two apposing parts together such as the material/spiritual or mind/heart.
The exhibition title, Veiled and Revealed, reflects my attempt to explore ways to reconcile, in a harmonious and playful way, our fragmented and complex culture. I selected ordinary views and everyday objects as points of departure for this series of paintings. The concept is more important than the status of the objects and the views emphasize the absence of hierarchy in my personal world view.
