I was placing a piece of fruit into my child’s lunch. An everyday act. When I suddenly saw how simply beautiful the fruit was. I saw how all the elements of painting that I love could be found in such a humble subject matter.
So I started to paint. A few fruits. A single flower. Exploring the effects of shadow & light and revealing their intrinsic beauty. These objects are painted onto everyday ‘stuff’. I started to construct the surfaces with ordinary materials found in the home. Wood, fabric and dryer lint.
Yes, commonplace, but for me, the beholder, something special!
